How do I improve wireless range and wireless speed?

General Tips and Advice for Troubleshooting FlashRouter WiFi Issue:

  • If your FlashRouter came with external antennae make sure that these are connected and fully screwed into the FlashRouter, as this will 100% help the range.

Options for improving DD-WRT router WiFi performance:

  • Boosting your Wireless Power in DD-WRT: In the Wireless > wl0 and wl1 or ath0 and ath1 Advanced tabs you can also try boosting the wireless Tx power to approximately 150 or even higher if you like (note: this should not exceed 250) to see if that helps send out a more powerful wireless signal. Be sure the router is in a well ventilated location when upping the power settings.
  • Changing Wireless Channels in DD-WRT: You can also experiment with adjusting the Wireless Network Mode or Wireless Channel on the Wireless > Basic Settings page to see what works best for you in your setup.

  • Boosting your Wireless Power in Tomato: In the Advanced > Wireless you can also try boosting the wireless Tx power to approximately 150 or even higher if you like (note: this should not exceed 250) to see if that helps send out a more powerful wireless signal. Be sure the router is in a well ventilated location when upping the power settings.
  • Changing Wireless Channels in Tomato: You can also experiment with adjusting the Wireless Network Mode or Wireless Channel on the Basic > Network page to see what works best for you in your setup.
  • Scan feature in Tomato will let you know the least crowded wireless channel.
