Introducing EMOJID - WiFi network names with emojis
Emojis have become a primary form of communication and have broken down language barriers worldwide. Now with the FR DD-WRT Privacy App you can use emojis as your Wireless Network Name. Be creative, make it funny, make it fancy, send messages to anyone trying to break into your WiFi network, and much much more.
Normally you would receive an error when inputting emojis into router settings. However, using the unique FR Privacy App for DD-WRT, setting up EMOJIDs are now easy and possible!
How do I set an EMOJID using the FR DD-WRT App?
The easiest way to enter emojis into your router settings is by using a device that has emojis built into the keyboard. This means that smartphones and tablets are ideal for changing settings and managing your entire WiFi and VPN network through the FR App.
Join any available FlashRouter network and then go to the Simple Setup section in the FR App. All you need to do is enter your EMOJID in any of the WiFi SSID fields and then click Apply below. The FlashRouter will then reboot/restart your WiFi networks, and when they come back up you should see your newly named EMOJID networks appearing.
Remember you will be booted from the WiFi network if you change the SSID and you will need to join again using the new settings.
How can I set an EMOJID from my Desktop computer?
Although emojis are not available on standard keyboards, you can use browser extensions or websites like Cool Symbol - Emoji Copy to click and copy any emoji you would like to enter into your FR App settings. Almost all popular emojis should be compatible.
Which WiFi devices will properly display my EMOJID?
EMOJIDs work on all iOS, Andorid, MAC OS, and Windows 10 devices. On older Windows devices, EMOJIDs may not display properly in your available WiFi networks, so be sure to keep one of your network names without emojis for legacy devices if applicable.
What are some creative ways to use EMOJIDs in your network?
In the FlashRouter offices we love to "flash" and so obviously we used flashes of light for one of our Tri-band networks. We left our normal 2.4GHz network up without an EMOJID so we can properly connect via WiFi on legacy devices. Since it's Super Bowl week (at the time this article was published) you might be able to see which team we are rooting for this year. As soon as the baseball season kicks in, we will give our EMOJID a seasonal update.
How about an EMOJID to scare away those hackers:

Why is the EMOJID I entered not displaying properly?
There are constant additions and updates to the public emoji library. If you find an emoji is simply displaying a plain square or not displaying at all, it is likely a recent addition to the Unicode library. FlashRouters will do its best to update compatibility as the emoji libraries are updated.
